Messianic Hebrew Holidays
A. Why doesn't the Messianic Hebrew Holidays come on the same day each year?
The Messianic Hebrew Holidays do come on the same day every year according to the Messianic Hebrew Calendar. The Messianic Hebrew Calendar like the Jewish Calendar is a Lunar calendar and has twelve months and in a leap year thirteen months. A Messianic Hebrew month has twenty nine and thirty days in it. ( note: any Jewish calendar will work as a Hebrew calendar just add 200 years and change the month's names accordingly) The month always begins on the New Moon. This makes our calendar some what short to the Solar calendar and because certain Holidays such as Pass Over and Succoth must be in a certain time of year, the spring and fall respectively. Therefore we add a thirteenth month every so often, this happens seven times every nineteen years. The Messianic Hebrew months are

Furthermore there are three times each year where we are to have a pilgrimage Holiday. They are spoken of in Deuteronomy ( Devarim ) 16:16 Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before Yahuah in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before Yahuah empty:
B. What is Rosh Chodush
Rosh Chodush is the observance of the new month each month or the beginning of a new month. It is written in Deuteronomy 28:11 that in the beginning of our months we are to bring and offering to Yahuah.
C. Feast of Abib or The Messianic Hebrew Rosh Hashanah
Feast of Abib is the observance of the new month at the beginning of all our months which is our New Year. Rosh Chodush each month or the beginning of a new month. It is written in Exodus ( Shemot ) 12:2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you. Also in Numbers ( Bemidbar ) 28:11 - 15 And in the beginnings of your months you shall offer a burnt offering unto Yahuah; two young bullocks, and one ram, seven lambs of the first year without spot. And three tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, for one bullock; and two tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, for one ram. And a several tenth deal of flour mingled with oil for a meat offering unto one lamb; for a burnt offering of a sweet savor, a sacrifice made by fire unto Yahuah. And their drink offerings shall be half an hin of wine unto a bullock, and the third part of an hin unto a ram, and a fourth part of an hin unto a lamb: this is the burnt offering of every month throughout the months of the year. And one kid of the goats for a sin offering unto Yahuah shall be offered, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering. Also in Deuteronomy ( Devarim ) 16:1 Observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover unto Yahuah: for in the month of Abib Yahuah brought thee forth out of Egypt by night. Also in Exodus ( Shemot ) 13:4 - 7 This day came you out in the month Abib. And it shall be when Yahuah shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he swear unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shall keep this service in this month. Seven days thou shall eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to Yahuah. Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days; and there shall no leavened bread be seen with thee, neither shall there be leaven seen with thee in all thy quarters.
D. Feast of Pass over?
Passover is the First High Sabbath of the year to us. It is given to us by Yahuah to be keep in this month at this time of year. It is written in Exodus ( Shemot ) 12:2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you. Speak you unto all the congregation of Yahisrael, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house. And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbor next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: you shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats. And you shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Yahisrael shall kill it in the evening. And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. And you shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remains of it until the morning you shall burn with fire. And thus shall you eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste: it is Yahuah's Passover. For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am Yahuah. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where you are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and you shall keep it a feast to Yahuah throughout your generations; you shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever. Seven days shall you eat unleavened bread; even the first day you shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Yahisrael. And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you. And you shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall you observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever.
So Yahuah gave us a time for keeping this commandment it is also written as: in Exodus ( Shemot ) 12: 24 And you shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever.
Also it is written in Deuteronomy 16:1 - 11 Observe the month of Abib, and keep the Passover unto Yahuah: for in the month of Abib Yahuah brought thee forth out of Egypt by night. Thou shall therefore sacrifice the Passover unto Yahuah, of the flock and the herd, in the place which Yahuah shall choose to place his name there. Thou shall eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shall thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction: for thou came forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou may remember the day when thou came forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life. And there shall be no leavened bread seen with thee in all thy coast seven days; neither shall there any thing of the flesh, which thou came sacrificed the first day at even, remain all night until the morning. { Thou may not sacrifice the Passover within any of thy gates, which Yahuah given thee: But at the place which Yahuah shall choose to place his name in, there thou shall sacrifice the Passover at even, at the going down of the sun, at the season that thou came forth out of Egypt. }(Authors note: it appears that the preceding words with in the { } were added sometime in the fourth Millenium we are trying to find out just when it was added) And thou shall roast and eat it in the place which Yahuah shall choose: and thou shall turn in the morning, and go unto thy tents. Six days thou shall eat unleavened bread: and on the seventh day shall be a solemn assembly to Yahuah: thou shall do no work therein. Seven weeks shall thou number unto thee: begin to number the seven weeks from such time as thou begin to put the sickle to the corn. And thou shall keep the feast of weeks unto Yahuah with a tribute of a freewill offering of your hand, which thou shall give unto Yahuah, according as Yahuah has blessed thee. And thou shall rejoice before Yahuah, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which Yahuah has chosen to place his name there.
Now for who may keep this Passover. This is the ordinance of the Passover as recorded in Exodus ( Shemot ) 12:43 - 49 There shall no stranger eat thereof: But every man's servant that is bought for money, when thou has circumcised him, then shall he eat thereof. A foreigner and an hired servant shall not eat thereof. In one house shall it be eaten; thou shall not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall you break a bone thereof. All the congregation of Yahisrael shall keep it. And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the Passover to Yahuah , let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof. One law shall be to him that is home born, and unto the stranger that so journey among you.
E. Feast of Unleven Bread?
Exodus ( Shemot ) 12:17 - 20 And you shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall you observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever. In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even. Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eats that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Yahisrael, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land. You shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall you eat unleavened bread.
F. Shevuoth?
Shevuoth is also called The Feast of Weeks and The Feast of Pentecost. We get the commandment to keep this Sabbath in Deuteronomy ( Devarim ) 16:9 - 11 Seven weeks shall thou number unto thee: begin to number the seven weeks from such time as thou begins to put the sickle to the corn. And thou shall keep the feast of weeks unto Yahuah with a tribute of a freewill offering of your hand, which thou shall give unto Yahuah, according as Yahuah has blessed thee: And thou shall rejoice before Yahuah, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which Yahuah has chosen to place his name there.
G. Feast of Trumpets, Shofars, or The Jewish Rosh Hashanah?
We have the commandment to Keep a Sabbath of the "Blowing of The Trumpets on, Tishrei first of every year. It is so commanded in Leviticus ( Vayyiqra ) 23:24 - 25 Speak unto the children of Yahisrael, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall you have a Sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation. You shall do no servile (work of any kind) work therein: but you shall offer an offering made by fire unto Yahuah.
H. Yom Kippur?
We are commanded to fast once every year this day is know as Yom Kippur or Day of Atonement it is given to us in Leviticus ( Vayyiqra ) 16 29 - 34 And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that so journey among you: For on that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you, that you may be clean from all your sins before Yahuah. It shall be a Sabbath of rest unto you, and you shall afflict your souls, by a statute for ever. And the priest, whom he shall anoint, and whom he shall consecrate to minister in the priest's office in his father's stead, shall make the atonement, and shall put on the linen clothes, even the holy garments: And he shall make an atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the tabernacle of the congregation, and for the altar, and he shall make an atonement for the priests, and for all the people of the congregation. And this shall be an everlasting statute unto you, to make an atonement for the children of Yahisrael for all their sins once a year. And he did as Yahuah commanded Moses. And in Leviticus ( Vayyiqra ) 23:27 - 32 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto Yahuah. And you shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before Yahuah. For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people. And whatsoever soul it be that does any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people. You shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. It shall be unto you a Sabbath of rest, and you shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall you celebrate your Sabbath.
I. The Feast of Sukkot?
Succoth is the third of the three Sabbath we are commanded to travel to a point to celebrate, These three Sabbath are called the Pilgrimage Holidays. This Sabbath are given to us in Deuteronomy ( Devarim ) 16:12 - 15 And thou shall remember that thou was a bondman in Egypt: and thou shall observe and do these statutes. Thou shall observe the feast of tabernacles seven days, after that thou has gathered in thy corn and thy wine. And thou shall rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy manservant, and thy maidservant, and the Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates. Seven days shall thou keep a solemn feast unto Yahuah in the place which Yahuah shall choose: because Yahuah shall bless thee in all your increase, and in all the works of your hands, therefore thou shall surely rejoice. Also in Leviticus ( Vayyiqra ) 23:39 - 44 Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the fruit of the land, you shall keep a feast unto Yahuah seven days: on the first day shall be a Sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a Sabbath. And you shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the
boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before Yahuah seven days. And you shall keep it a feast unto Yahuah seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever in your generations: you shall celebrate it in the seventh month. You shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths: That your generations may know that I made the children of Yahisrael to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am Yahuah your God. And Moses declared unto the children of Yahisrael the feasts of Yahuah .
J. Why build a Sukkot and what is a Sukkot?
Succoth is a Hebrew word meaning "Booths" These "Booths" represent the housing the Hebrew lived in while they wondered the wilderness for forty years after they were freed from Egypt. A Succoth is a small "hut" building build outside of the house in which we stay for these eight days. This "hut" can be a tent or other temporary shelter that can be moved easy. A few of the people stay in these huts only enough time to eat the evening meal. However some stay in them the whole eight days and make a big party out of it.
K. SHEMINI ATZERET
Shemini Atzeret - The "Eighth Day of Solemn Assembly", the festival observed the day after Sukkot. In Yahisrael, as with us, Shemini Atzeret also marks the completion of the annual cycle of Torah reading and the beginning of the start of the re reading of the Torah. At the service when we complete the reading of the Book of Deuteronomy we start back at the beginning with Genesis (Bereshit ). it is written in Leviticus ( Vayyiqra ) 23:39 - 41 Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the fruit of the land, you shall keep a feast unto Yahuah seven days: on the first day shall be a Sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a Sabbath. And you shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before Yahuah seven days. And you shall keep it a feast unto Yahuah seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever in your generations: you shall celebrate it in the seventh month. This Eighth day, Shemini Atzeret is a High Sabbath and is a big celebration and rejoicing.
L. Years of Jubilee
The year of JUBILEE ! ! ! Time of Party and more partying. Well, not exactly. Yahuah does command us to keep a year of Jubilee every seven years and a year of Jubilee every forty nine years plus one. Now this is not every fifth years, it is the fiftieth year. This is a bit difficult to understand for some but if you follow very closely you can understand. You number forty nine years then the next year is the year of Jubilee, Then you start counting from the fourth ninth year. You can count forty nine times three, which is 147 years then the next year will be the fiftieth year and the year of Jubilee.
Year of Jubilee seventh year Jubilee.
Here I will address the Year of Jubilee every seventh year. We are to help and the word is "HELP" our brethren, neighbor. It is written in Deuteronomy ( Devarim ) 15:1 - 15 At the end of every seven years thou shall make a release. And this is the manner of the release: Every creditor that length ought unto his neighbor shall release it; he shall not exact it of his neighbor, or of his brother; because it is called Yahuah 's release. Of a foreigner thou may exact it again: but that which is yours with thy brother, your hand shall release; Save when there shall be no poor among you; for Yahuah shall greatly bless thee in the land which Yahuah gives thee for an inheritance to possess it: Only if thou carefully hearken unto the voice of Yahuah, to observe to do all these commandments which I command thee this day. For Yahuah blessed thee, as he promised thee: and thou shall lend unto many nations, but thou shall not borrow; and thou shall reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over thee. If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which Yahuah gives thee, thou shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from thy poor brother. But thou shall open your hand wide unto him, and shall surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wants. Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and your eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou gives him naught; and he cry unto Yahuah against thee, and it be sin unto thee. Thou shall surely give him, and your heart shall not be grieved when thou gives unto him: because that for this thing Yahuah shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou putts your hand unto. For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shall open your hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land. And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shall let him go free from thee. And when thou sends him out free from thee, thou shall not let him go away empty: Thou shall furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy wine press: of that wherewith Yahuah has blessed thee thou shall give unto him. And thou shall remember that thou was a bondman in the land of Egypt, and Yahuah redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing to day. Also in Leviticus ( Vayyiqra ) 25:1 - 7 And Yahuah spake unto Moses in mount Sinai, saying, Speak unto the children of Yahisrael, and say unto them, When you come into the land which I give you, then shall the land keep a Sabbath unto Yahuah . Six years thou shall sow thy field, and six years thou shall prune thy vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof; But in the seventh year shall be a Sabbath of rest unto the land, a Sabbath for Yahuah : thou shall neither sow thy field, nor prune thy vineyard. That which grows of its own accord of thy harvest thou shall not reap, neither gather the grapes of thy vine undressed: for it is a year of rest unto the land. And the Sabbath of the land shall be meat for you; for thee, and for thy servant, and for thy maid, and for thy hired servant, and for thy stranger that so journey with thee, And for thy cattle, and for the beast that are in thy land, shall all the increase thereof be meat.
I would like to add here that this is not the only time we are to help our neighbor or brethren, we are to help one another everyday.
Year of Jubilee The 50th year.
Now I will address the Year of Jubilee every forty ninth year in the fiftieth year. In this Year of Jubilee we are to do the following according to the scriptures. In Leviticus ( Vayyiqra ) 25:1 - 38 And Yahuah spake unto Moses in mount Sinai, saying, Speak unto the children of Yahisrael, and say unto them, When you come into the land which I give you, then shall the land keep a Sabbath unto Yahuah. And thou shall number seven Sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven Sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years. Then shall thou cause the trumpet of the jubilee to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall you make the trumpet sound throughout all your land. And you shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you; and you shall return every man unto his possession, and you shall return every man unto his family. A jubilee shall that fiftieth year be unto you: you shall not sow, neither reap that which grows of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of thy vine undressed. For it is the jubilee; it shall be holy unto you: you shall eat the increase thereof out of the field. In the year of this jubilee you shall return every man unto his possession. And if thou sell ought unto thy neighbor, or buys ought of thy neighbor's hand, you shall not oppress one another: According to the number of years after the jubilee thou shall buy of thy neighbor, and according unto the number of years of the fruits he shall sell unto thee: According to the multitude of years thou shall increase the price thereof, and according to the fewness of years thou shall diminish the price of it: for according to the number of the years of the fruits does he sell unto thee. You shall not therefore oppress one another; but thou shall fear Yahuah : for I am Yahuah. Wherefore you shall do my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; and you shall dwell in the land in safety. And the land shall yield her fruit, and you shall eat your fill, and dwell therein in safety. And if you shall say, What shall we eat the seventh year? behold, we shall not sow, nor gather in our increase: Then I will command my blessing upon you in the sixth year, and it shall bring forth fruit for three years. And you shall sow the eighth year, and eat yet of old fruit until the ninth year; until her fruits come in you shall eat of the old store. The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine; for you are strangers and sojourners with me. And in all the land of your possession you shall grant a redemption for the land. If thy brother be waxen poor, and has sold away some of his possession, and if any of his kin come to redeem it, then shall he redeem that which his brother sold. And if the man have none to redeem it, and himself be able to redeem it; Then let him count the years of the sale thereof, and restore the over plus unto the man to whom he sold it; that he may return unto his possession. But if he be not able to restore it to him, then that which is sold shall remain in the hand of him that has bought it until the year of jubilee: and in the jubilee it shall go out, and he shall return unto his possession. And if a man sell a dwelling house in a walled city, then he may redeem it within a whole year after it is sold; within a full year may he redeem it. And if it be not redeemed within the space of a full year, then the house that is in the walled city shall be established for ever to him that bought it throughout his generations: it shall not go out in the jubilee. But the houses of the villages which have no wall round about them shall be counted as the fields of the country: they may be redeemed, and they shall go out in the jubilee. Notwithstanding the cities of the Levites, and the houses of the cities of their possession, may the Levites redeem at any time. And if a man purchase of the Levites, then the house that was sold, and the city of his possession, shall go out in the year of jubilee: for the houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession among the children of Yahisrael. But the field of the suburbs of their cities may not be sold; for it is their perpetual possession. And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shall relieve him: yea, though he be a stranger, or a sojourner; that he may live with thee. Take thou no usury of him, or increase: but fear thy Yahuah; that thy brother may live with thee. Thou shall not give him thy money upon usury, nor lend him thy victuals for increase. I am Yahuah, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your Yahuah .
M. Feast of Chanukah?
Chanukah is not a Yahuah commanded sabbath, therefore, we do not refer to it as a Sabbath. Chanukah is an eight day festival commemorating the recapture and rededicate of The Temple. It is said that when the Temple was recaptured by the Hebrew and cleaned and ready to be rededicated they found only enough oil for the Seven Branched Menorah for one day. It takes eight days to make new oil for this Menorah but the people wanted the Menorah lit. So The Priest lit the Menorah and Yahuah provided the lamp for the whole eight days. The flame did not go out during this time period. The Priest seen what had happen decided to ordain a holy day to remember this miracle. And we also keep this day to celebrate the Miracle. Over the years because of the time of year being close to the well celebrated Pagan holiday of "Christmas" The Hebrews have begun giving gifts to their children so their children do not feel left out by not getting gifts. It is by some looked upon as a reflection of the gift of light that Yahuah gave to His children and we give a gift to our children on each of night of the Chanukah.
N. The Feast of Purim?
Purim also a day not commanded by Yahuah for us to keep. This day commemorates
the victory of the Hebrew over King Ahasuerus' number one man Haman. When
Haman tried to have all of the Hebrew in the land murdered, Yahuah intervened.
This is a time of great celebrations. People dress up in costumes and exchange
gifts between one another. Parties at this time go on all day and all night.
At these parties the entire book of Esther is read aloud. Every time the
name Haman is read everybody makes noise says boo o o o o anything to block
out the hearing of the name Haman. Every time the name Mordecai is read everybody
cheers. It is also the only time where one is permitted to get drunk provided
they do not or are not known to cause trouble when drunk. In the event they
are pronged to cause trouble at such times, as some are, they are not allowed
to get drunk at these parties, if they do then they are locked up. Most however
do not take it quite that far and are reasonable with the spirits. All in
all it is a time of playing, praying and having a good time. It celebrates
the victory of the weak over the powerful.
