What do the Messianic Hebrew believe in?
A. What is a Messianic Hebrew?
One may express a Messianic Hebrew as a hybrid of Judaism and Christian, however that would miss the true definition. We are more like the first of the first century followers of the Messiah than we are to anyone today. Messianic Hebrew does not fit into anyone's neat little category. We come from the Jews, and the Gentiles, as they know themselves today. There are those who come from a Jewish up bringing and those from a Christian up bringing. There are whites, blacks and American Indians and others. We are not from just one race. We are not from just one religion although, we are one in that we believe that there is only One Creator, Yahuah. We are one people. We are one in that we pray to Yahuah and to no other . We do not bow in front of any person or thing to pray to that person or thing. Some do kneel, on one knee some on both knees some on both knees with their hands on the ground, floor, or rug. Some even lay down with their belly on the ground with their faces facing, or the top of their heads towards Jerusalem. We do try face Jerusalem, not east, when we pray.
Here I will try to make a simple point that is often misunderstood. "All Jews are Hebrew but all Hebrew are not Jews." To help you the reader understand this let me put it this way, "all oaks are trees but all trees are not oaks." Most of us can understand this because we see trees everyday and they are not all the same species. It is understood that any Oak is a tree whether a seedling or full grown but some trees are Pine, some are Sweet Gum and there are many, many other kinds of trees. The Hebrews represent the trees and the Jews represent oaks or a single species. The word Jew comes from the word Judah which is one of the twelve tribes of Yahisrael, but more to the southern area of Yahisrael known as the House of Judah. Jew is an abbreviation of the word Judaean. The Jews as we know them today are made up of the tribe of Judah, Benjamin, and a small part of the Levi and quite possibly fragments of the other tribes as well. However, all of these other fragments tribes have assimilated into the tribe of Judah.
The Hebrew on the other hand are all of Abraham decedents, as Abraham was the first of the Hebrew as we refer to them. The Hebrew are the decedents of Isaac. The children of Ishmael became known as Bedouins ( also spelled Beduins) and the children of Isaac became known as Hebrews and later the son of Isaac, who was called Ya'acov ( Jacob ) was renamed YehIsrael ( Yahisrael ), by Yahuah. After that the Hebrew became known as the Israelites and /or Hebrews. Abraham, Isaac, and Ya'acov ( Jacob ) are called the fathers of Yahisrael. Abraham is the father of the Hebrew. Much of the time the Israelites were called "The Hebrew" today only the Jews are referred to as Israelites. Many people today mistakenly referred to the Jews as The Hebrews, but as pointed out early they are really only a small part of the Hebrew. Therefore to keep us separate and to represent all, we are called Hebrew, and because we believe that the Messiah has came once we are referred to as Messianic, therefore the name Messianic Hebrew. Now, if you are one who has a problem with that name, all we can say is get over it, or your going to have a problem for a long time.
The Hebrews or Yahisrael were together in the land of Yahisrael until about 2060 by the Hebrew calendar this would be about 1300 BCE (Before Common Era or Before Christian Era). { Notice: Messianic Hebrew Calendar and Jewish Calendar differs by some 200 years. } The first Temple was built under King Solomon about a thousand years before the Christian era. After King Solomon died the tribes divided into two separate units. The Northern part was referred to as "The House of Yahisrael" or just "Yahisrael". The Southern part was referred to as Judah. Judah was the larger of the two tribes there so it was called Judah. The other tribe in the southern part was Benjamin along with a small part of the Priest tribe "Levi".
In about 2838 according to the Hebrew year the "House of Yahisrael" was, by Yahuah's will, defeated, captured, and carried away and assimilated into other cultures and nations. These have become known as the "Ten Lost Tribes of Yahisrael," but in reality they are only lost to mankind. They were assimilated in to the other culture in other countries to which they were carried. Therefore they lost most of their identity. As a people they were totally destroyed. They have been so far removed from their roots that not even they know who they are, only Yahuah knows for sure who and where they are at today. Even though they have been so destroyed, as a people, there is enough traits left over that should one study the various countries of today looking into there ways as a whole and not individuals, one can see the likeness of certain people and what was said by Isaac about each of his twelve children. You can come close to seeing where they are and who they have became.
As we move closer and closer to the fulfillment of the Bible Prophecy we feel that Yahuah is calling these "Lost People" out from the other nations and bring them together. Yahuah can bring these people together again if they, the people, wish to be brought together again. The very first thing that has to be done is that the person has to want to be a part of the people who is to teach the world Yahuah ways. Any person who desires true freedom and is willing to learn and do Yahuah's will he will bring them into the family.
B . What is the Messianic Hebrew's statement of faith?
I believe with perfect faith that Elohim is the Creator and Ruler of all things. He alone has made, does make, and will make all things.
I believe with perfect faith that Elohim is One. There is no unity that is in any way like His. He alone is our Elohim-He was, He is, and He will be.
I believe with perfect faith that Elohim does not have a body. Physical concepts do not apply to Him. There is nothing whatsoever that resembles Him at all.
I believe with perfect faith that Elohim is first and last.
I believe with perfect faith that it is only proper to pray to Elohim. One may not pray to anyone or anything else.
I believe with prefect faith that all the words of the prophets are true.
I believe with perfect faith that the prophecy of Moses is absolutely true. He was the chief of all prophets, both before and after him.
I believe with perfect faith that the entire Torah that we now have is that which was given to Moses.
I believe with perfect faith that this Torah will not be changed, and that there will never be another given by Elohim.
I believe with perfect faith that Elohim knows all of man's deeds and thoughts. It is thus written (Psalm 33:15), "He has molded every heart together, He understands what each one does."
I believe with perfect faith that Elohim rewards those who keep His commandments, and punishes those who transgress Him.
I believe with perfect faith in the coming of the Messiah. I know not how long it takes, however I will await his coming every day.
I believe with perfect faith that the dead will be brought back to life when Elohim wills it to happen.
We believe with perfect faith that Yahuah has given men knowledge to teach people the ways to do His will here on Earth.
These are the fourteen truths that we believe in without any doubt. They are all well grounded in the Bible and there fore we accept them with out question.
C. What do the Messianic Hebrew believe in?
In addition to the above statement of faith we also have beliefs that may be broken down into a more simpler statement and for everyday use. I will start by saying we have adopted many of the ways of the Jews and to the best of our ability to live a Torah Observant life. We accept only one teaching that has became to be thought of as a Christian belief and that is that, the Messiah has came at least once and shall return again someday at Yahuah's will. I might add that we do not believe that this Messiah is Yahuah, but he is the only begotten Son of Yahuah.
I suppose this would be as good a place as any to mention what bible we use. First and foremost we use the First five books of the so called Old Testament. We say, "so called" because there is only one Testament of Yahuah and therefore there is no reason to use "Old or New". These are the only scriptures that things may be compared to and judged whether to be of Yahuah or not. Next we use the first five books of the so called New Testament, which we call the "Instructions". We then use the rest of the Jewish Bible called the Prophets plus the book of Revelation. The other books of the "New Testament" are apart of the "Writings" and we do not use it completely. We do pick and chose what parts of the writings we follow as they are for the most part commentary. We study the Torah and then the writings in question if they go contrary to the Torah we simply disregard them as positive truth but there may be something to learn from even those writings. Therefore we study them such as we study almost any other book.
We accept that there is only One True King and the King is Yahuah. We pray to Yahuah the One True King and only to Him. We do not believe that Yahusha is Yahuah. Yahusha was /is a man with a human mother and a spiritual Father. We believe Yahusha to be the only begotten son of the One True King. Yahusha was and is a great teacher a "Rabbi". Did Yahusha teach man to keep the Sabbaths? Yes. Did Yahusha teach man to break the Sabbath? Yes. Did Yahusha keep the Sabbaths? Yes, He did. Did Yahusha break the Sabbath? Yes, He did. Are these things constriction of one another? Yes and No, actual No. Yahusha taught that there is something even more important than the Sabbath, something more than keeping to the letter of the Law. Yahusha taught that a persons Physical life and Physical well being and in some cases mans belongings were more important than the letter of the Law. Yahusha taught what most people of that day and the people of today had lost, He taught one of Yahuah's most important traits, "Compassion". If you think about it we must have this thing first, "Compassion," in order to do what Yahuah expects us to do. We accept that the weekly Sabbaths, the monthly Sabbaths, and the yearly Sabbaths are very important but ones well being and safety are to be put ahead of even that. The Torah teaches that the most important deed we can do is to preserve a life. Yahusha also taught that showing one praise of Yahuah is as important as keeping the Sabbath Laws.
D. Do Messianic Hebrew believe that their way is the only way to get to the Kingdom of Yahuah?
We believe that the Messianic Hebrews are /is the only way one may follow and receive eternal life. The Scriptures teach us that we must do our very best to follow Yahuah's Law. We do not say that people in ever culture and religion does not do good to their fellow man. Only if one truly wishes to please Yahuah, the giver of eternal life, can one hope to receive eternal life. Therefore in order to do this we must please Him and what it takes to please Him is written in the Torah and Instructions and these things we must do to the best of our ability. We believe that we do live by the Law. The Law sets us free, for with out Yahuah's Law there is no true freedom. With out the Law we would not know what sin is and how to avoid it. To live by the Law is a blessing not a burden or a curse as some say.
The Law teaches us to be just in all dealings to treat the stranger and the Hebrew the same. The law teaches us to accept others who hunger for true freedom to bring them into our family that we may become one people, one though, one way when it comes to Yahuah.
We believe that all of the good deeds we can do is worth nothing if we don't believe in Yahuah and His only begotten son, Yahusha.
E. Do the Messianic Hebrews consider themselves special or Yahuah's chosen people?
We believe that Yahuah chose the Hebrew people to do His work here on earth and teach the rest of the people how to please Him. We believe that the Hebrew people accepted this charge at Mount Sinai and have not been released of this obligation even unto today. Many people misunderstand this term "Chosen People". It does not imply that we have a more favorable place in the eyes of Yahuah or that we have some mystical power. It means that we have been chosen to do a job, a job that for the most part we have failed at over the years. Simply put Yahuah offered us a job and we accepted it. In that way we were chosen, chosen to do a peculiar job. When the Hebrew people accepted that job we made a contract with Yahuah to do that job. In that way we are chosen. If we as a people do not make a honest effort to present this truth to you when we get the opportunity then your sin is upon us. On the other hand if we offer it to you and you refuse to accept it then your sin is upon you, our obligation has been fulfilled. We are not to try and force anyone to accept the truth, our actions is the main thing that will convince people that we are doing and believe the right things.
F. What is the Messianic Hebrews ideals of sin?
Well this brings us to what we believe is sin. First there is no "Big Sin" or "Little Sin" Sin is Sin. The most simple statement of what sin really is may be stated as follows: "Sin is the transgression of The Law". When you do one sin it is as if you have done every sin there is. To lie is the same as murdering. No sin is greater or lesser than another each is just as bad as another. Hence, the saying, "To break one of Yahuah's Commandments is to break all of them." However, there are two kinds of sin, first there is sin against Yahuah. Second there is sin against man and Yahuah. When we sin against man we sin against Yahuah. When we sin against Yahuah we must make restitution to Yahuah and ask Yahuah for forgiveness. When we sin against man we must make restitution and ask that person to forgive us, then we make restitution to Yahuah and ask Yahuah to forgive us. We must be sincere with this asking, we must truly be repentant. If we are and that person refuses to forgive us then our obligation is complete. Then we make restitution to Yahuah and ask His forgiveness for the sin against our fellow man. When we sin against our fellow man we sin against Yahuah also, so we must still make restitution to Yahuah and ask His forgiveness even if the other person forgives us or not.. If someone does us wrong and then makes or tries to make restitution and ask us for forgiveness and we refuse, then we should expect as much when we ask Yahuah for forgiveness. Hence, do unto others as you want others to do unto you. How do we perceive what is sinful? We look at it different than most, an example maybe: To take a life. The taking of a life may or may not be a sin. When someone takes the time to plan the taking of someone's life and lays in wait, then that is murder and is a sin. However, to bring someone before the courts and prove they have done certain wrongs then some wrongs are punishable by death and this is not murder. Another: Lying may or may not be a sin. To bare false witness against someone is always sin and we should not do so. We must look to see if we tell this lye will we hurt someone, which would be wrong to do, or are we avoiding bringing personal embarrassment in public to someone, in which case a lye may be justified. However, we must advise the person of the truth as soon as possible and ask for forgiveness, when it won't bring them public embarrassment and they have the opportunity to make a change. Drinking alcohol is not a sin but drinking it to a point where we do our body harm or do others harm is a sin. So it is not so much the act but the results and or reasons that make it sinful or not in most cases. Those who sin and never ask for forgiveness or refuses the truth is destine to eternal death at the finial judgment day. Those who do ask for forgiveness and do the will of Yahuah shall receive eternal Life.
G. What do the Messianic Hebrews believe about "Hell"?
In the last statement above I spoke of "eternal life" and "eternal death". Does this mean we believe in "Hell"? Yes, we do believe in "Hell" but not the "Hell" that Christians have come to believe in. The "Hell" that is accepted by the Christians is taken from a seventeenth century Science Fiction writer in "The Divine comedy of Dante Alighieri", as a place of everlasting torture. "Hell" as it appears in the "King James Bible" is an old English word meaning "a hole in the ground". A grave is a hole in the ground and we are all destine to go there sooner or later unless we live a long, long time.
Since in the Scriptures sin and sacrifice go to gather. This may be a good place to talk about what and how we feel about animal sacrifice. Do we believe in animal sacrifices? Yes we do. Yahuah said we are to do them through out all of our generations. He also told us who, when, and where to do these sacrifices, also what to do if the place He gave us is to far away. Seeing how Yahuah allowed the place to do the sacrifices to be destroyed then we do not do them at this time for the whole congregation. We do however, do a form of animal sacrifice. The same animal that was to be used for a certain offering is brought to the Synagogue or the Congregational leaders and it is used to help the needy. Some are slaughtered for food others are sold to buy other items which are needed. For more on this subject see "Chapter 5 Messianic Hebrew Laws and Rituals", sub title "What is the Messianic Hebrews views on Sacrifices and Tithing."
H. Do the Messianic Hebrews believe that the miracles of the Bible really happen?
The Messianic Hebrews believe that the Torah and the Prophets are fact. If the scriptures say that the Red Sea parted and the Hebrew walked across on dry land then that is what happen. The Hebrew walked across the bottom of the Red Sea with water standing high on both sides of them and no mud under foot. Where the Scriptures say that the Jordan River stopped flowing and the waters piled up on one side and the Hebrew walked across on dry land that is just what they did. Where is says that the walls of Jerico fell when the Hebrew blew on the trumpets, it fell. Where it says that the Sun stood still for two days it was truly a long work day and that is what happen. So, I suppose you could say, yes, we believe in the Miracles of the Bible.
I. Do the Messianic Hebrews believe that miracles happen today?
Good question. The short answer here is Yes. To put is another way. Look around Yahuah has allowed man to stay on this planet as long as He has, that in it's self is a miracle. The fact that Yahuah has given man the knowledge to do the things we do today is proof that miracles happen even today. A few examples here are mans flying heavier than air, aircraft. Mans adventures into space. Heart transplants, is another one. Some may say but these things are brought about by man himself. We say if Yahuah had not allowed it then we would not be doing it therefore it is a miracle. Ok, what about the miracles that take place when someone lives when all logic says they should be dead, as in some wrecks. What about major disasters where everyone dies except this one person right in the middle of it all, it is a miracle that they lived, that is not by the hand of man but by the hand of Yahuah.
Miracles do happen, even today.
J. Do the Messianic Hebrews believe in "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth"?
While I am on this subject I may as well point out that as according to the Scriptures we do believe in an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Now that is not to say that if someone puts out an eye or knocks out a tooth of someone we are to do the same to them. It means simply let the punishment fit the crime. And there is a difference whether it was an accident or done deliberate. If a person steals something he should not be put to death he should work as a slave or indentured servant, until the debt is repaid and not a day longer. If that person intentionally does something to a person in which the person died or was injured in such a way as they will never recover then the person doing the crime should be subject to being put to death.
K. Do the Messianic Hebrews believe that there is really a devil?
We believe that nothing happens by chance that everything has a force behind it. Whether that force is good or evil depends on the out come or in some cases how it is done. Yahuah can take an evil deed and turn it into good, but neither Satan nor mankind can do this. We do accept that there is a Devil or evil one, a fallen angel who was the Most High Angel at one time. We believe that this evil one has much power in this world and the vast majority of the people follow him in one way or another, whether Jew, Jew Pagan, Gentile, Gentile Pagan, Christian, Christian Pagan, Pagan or Heathen. We believe that either you are with Yahuah and try to do His will or you are with HaSatan. HaSatan is the representative of all that is evil in this world. From HaSatan there can be no good although he is quite capable of appearing to be good for a time. We believe that mankind has a, Yahuah given right to chose our own path to follow. We are not to even try to attempt to force others to do as we do. As Yahuah gives us the free choice to do His will or HaSatan's, we are to give our fellow man the same free choice.
L. Do the Messianic Hebrews believe in one man one wife?
This can be a very sticky subject with some people. I live in a country where it is a against the law to have more than one legal spouse. However there is no place in the Scriptures that say a man should have only one wife. Furthermore there is no place where the Scriptures even hint to the statement a man should have only one wife. In many places in the Scriptures it speaks of a man having many wives. There are some places where it seems speaks that a man should not hold certain positions if he has more than one wife. There are reasons for a man to have more than one and many reasons not to have more than one wife. The Messianic Hebrew however have no law that would prevent or discourage a man from having more than one wife. The though of having more than one wife is something to be considered very strongly with lots of counseling and prayer. In the event a man chooses to have more than one wife then it must be okayed by the wife he has at the time, as she to marries the new wife and they will become "sister wives". This act brings with it many new problems for both the man and the wives. The man will become the head of two women, they must summit themselves to him. He must care for and love them both equally.
I might add here sense I have said nothing of a woman having more than one husband. A woman is not allowed to have more than one husband. This has nothing to do with a woman being less or treated less than a man. It has to do with the practically of knowing who the father of the children is. We can always tell who the mother is she is the woman who had the large belly, the father on the other hand is not so obvious. Well I can hear it now, what if the woman can no longer have children. Well that goes back to do we believe in Miracles, and we do. Even a woman who is beyond the age of child baring can still have a child. Even a woman who has been "Fixed" can still have a child if it is Yahuah's will. So therefore we do not permit women to have more than one husband at a time. Unlike some religious groups we do not believe that women are prong to lay with just any man and most are likely to be raped. These events are the exception rather than the rule. Therefore we accept that any child a woman may have is the child of her Husband, unless otherwise known.
M. Do the Messianic Hebrews believe in the prophecy of the Bible?
Some of the prophecies of the bible have been fulfilled and others are yet to be fulfilled. Prophecy is mainly of Yahuah, however some are of Satan. Yahuah informs mankind as to what will happen if man continues doing what he is doing with out change. Yes, I said Yahuah or Satin, either can give prophecy and / or visions. To know who such prophecies come from is not one of the easiest things to do but it can be done. First one should look at the person giving the prophecy what kind of life do they live. Does this person live in fear of Yahuah or do they follow some strange god. Do they do this prophecy in order to earn money or other gifts. If so, do not trust their prophecies. All prophecies which come from Yahuah will fulfill in their season. Many prophecies of the "Old Testament" have been fulfilled and of course people can say hind sight is always 20/20 and that is true. However not all prophecies have been fulfilled as of today. Give man long enough and they will all come to pass. Remember that with all prophecy there is always that big word "IF", if man will make the change, this will not happen, or if man does continue to do this thing, this thing will happen.
N. Do the Messianic Hebrews Believe in modern Prophecy?
Yahuah has not changed in the last five or six millennium so why would we expect Him to change now. Yahuah has provided men of the past with views of what will happen if mankind continues on the same path and he still does this today. We believe that Yahuah's power has not lessened any over the years and that He still reviles to certain people what is to befall mankind in the near future. These people do not have to be anyone special in the eyes of the people just in the eyes of Yahuah.
The second part of chapter twelve of this book is a prophecy of what is about
to befall North America some time with in the next forty years "IF" mankind
does not clean up the mess he has made and change his ways of treating his
fellow man. To sum it up, Yes we do believe in Modern Prophecy.
